I was a research scientist on Google DeepMind’s Frontier Safety team. Before that, I helped launch ambitious research organizations for scientific progress at Convergent Research, and co-founded Copysmith (acquired), where I led engineering. I previously studied Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

I primarily aim to increase the surface area of ambitious actions we can take to help AI go well: for example, by assessing the risks posed by highly capable systems and publishing on them, improving societal understanding of model capabilities, and enabling cross-industry discussion of what “sufficient” mitigations entail.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how to make decisions that are fully coherent with my values; to be simultaneously morally courageous, and to move through life alight with joy.
